Routine gynecological examinations (cervical cancer screening or pap test, screening for sexually transmitted diseases, assessment and treatment of vaginitis) are carried out by family doctors and clinical nurses in Family Medicine Groups (FMGs), as recommended by the MSSS (Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux). Unfortunately, not feeling comfortable with your family doctor is no reason to consult a gynecologist. Gynovie’s gynecologists only perform these examinations if your family doctor is unable to do so. In this case, your family doctor must refer you to a gynecologist via the CRDS (see “How do I get an appointment with a gynecologist?”).
