FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I have a file at the clinic. Can I assume that I now have a gynecologist who will see me forever ?

Quebec’s Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) stipulates that women should be cared for by their family doctor. Only women with gynecological pathologies are cared for by a specialist in gynecology. For this reason, it is highly likely that you will be entrusted to the care of your family doctor once your gynecological condition has been resolved or stabilized. Your care plan is clearly discussed and established with your gynecologist during your last office visit.

Routine gynecological examinations (cervical cancer screening or pap test, screening for sexually transmitted diseases, assessment and treatment of vaginitis) are carried out by family doctors and nurse clinicians in Family Medicine Groups (FMGs), as recommended by the MSSS. Unfortunately, not feeling comfortable with your family doctor is no reason to consult a gynecologist. Gynovie’s gynecologists only perform these examinations if your family doctor is unable to do so. In this case, your family doctor must refer you to a gynecologist via the CRDS (see “How do I get an appointment with a gynecologist?”).

The Gynovie clinic has six gynecologists working hard to serve the Montérégie Ouest region. Unfortunately, the shortage of specialists in the region leaves us no room for maneuver. We are required to follow the recommendations of the MSSS to ensure access to gynecological care for women with acute, urgent and chronic pathologies.

Your file will be automatically closed if :

  • your gynecologist has discharged you and transferred your care to your family physician
  • you saw one of the clinic’s gynecologists more than two years ago (unless the gynecologist agreed with you that your follow-ups would be every two years)
